Smaranika Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2026-10-05

Developer: Smaranika, an independent app

Contact: privacy@smaranika.app

Smaranika ("the app") helps you pick the best photos from your own Photos library, organize them by place and event, and turn them into shareable pages, books and postcards. This policy explains what the app does with your information. The short version: your photos stay on your phone, and we do not collect your data.

What we collect

Nothing. There is no account or sign-in. The app has no advertising, no analytics and no crash-reporting service. We do not receive your photos, your locations, your captions or anything else you create in the app, and we do not sell or share personal information.

Your photos and Photos library

The app asks for access to your Photos library so it can read your photos and their dates and locations. You can allow access to all photos or to selected photos only.

What is stored on your device

Your collections, the photos you keep, captions and settings are saved on your phone, inside the app. Deleting the app removes this data from your device. Backups are covered below.

Services the app contacts

The app connects to the internet only for the three things below. We do not run a server that receives your data.

  1. Place names and maps (Apple). To turn a photo's location into a place name (for example, "Reykjavik"), to look up a place you type in, and to show maps, the app uses Apple's location and mapping services built into iOS. The coordinates or place text needed for this are sent to Apple and are handled under Apple's Privacy Policy.
  2. App updates (Expo). The app checks for and downloads updates to its own code from Expo's update service (EAS Update, operated by Expo). Like any web request, this shares technical details such as your IP address, app version and device type. No photos or personal content are sent. See Expo's Privacy Policy.
  3. TestFlight (Apple), beta testers only. If you install the app through TestFlight, Apple may collect feedback and crash information that you choose to share, under Apple's terms.

Exports and sharing

When you export a PDF, image, postcard or backup file, it is created on your device. It leaves your device only if you choose to share or save it, for example with AirDrop, Messages or Save to Files. After that, the app has no control over where the file goes.

Children

The app is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone.

Your choices

You can change or revoke Photos and location access at any time in iOS Settings > Smaranika. Because we do not hold any data about you, there is nothing for us to delete or export on your behalf; deleting the app removes the app's data from your device.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date above.
